Young Face, Old Bones

I look young but my bones are not.

Last Friday, I showed the results of my lumbosacral spine x-ray to my physician and he told me that I have a very mild scoliosis that I don't need to worry. It was actually my second x-ray as the first one, the scoliosis series, did not capture the last three bones of my spine. The first x-ray had already shown that I have a very mild scoliosis but my doctor just wanted to be sure there was nothing wrong with my lower spinal bones.
My doctor asked for my age and when I told him I'd be turning 40 next month, he retorted that my bones were five years older than my actual age. One reason could be, according to him, due to lifting heavy weights. Well, I used to go to the gym when I was in my early 20s and in my late 30s (I'm sad though because I was not able to maintain the muscles I gained when I first tried bodybuilding and did not sustain the training in both attempts).

Another finding on my test was the presence of prickles on my spines. Good thing, though, the spikes grew fronting my stomach and not at the backside. Otherwise, I would be experiencing excruciating pain from the sides downward. The sad part is that there is no known cure for this. I just have to live with it and wait for the time it reaches the back part of my spines, which is 10 to 20 years from now.

My doctor also found out that my lumbosacral is upright when it should be somewhat curved. To correct this, he gave me simple home exercises which I should do before I get up from bed every morning. He also advised me to buy a lumbosacral chair device to support my lower back while seating. In addition, he urged me to swim twice a week to strengthen my spines and to have other forms of activities that would require me to move such as dancing or other sports preferrably lawn or table tennis but not bowling. Lastly, he advised me to rest my foot alternately on a low stool while I'm using the computer.

I left my doctor's clinic somewhat relieved because I have been affirmed that my condition is not serious and that I can do some therapies at home or in other places during my spare time. The bed exercises I have started this morning; the swimming I shall start next week.

For now, I shall be more conscious about my other condition: my diabetes and that's another blog topic.
